30 years of global buyer experience, helping Chinese factories reach world markets

Reading the market the way a buyer does, and connecting factories to the resources and openings that follow. From OEM production floors to brands of my own, from cold trade-show booths to closed-door meetings with buyers at Walmart, Target and TJX — over $900M USD in export value facilitated.

Global Buyer Strategist

Our family's roots in international trade go back to my grandfather's generation — he started a toy trading company in Hong Kong in the 1950s. In 1999, after finishing my studies in Boston, my brother and I joined the family business, starting out on the buying-office side and building judgment factory by factory.

Over thirty years, I've built 5 of my own brands, helped facilitate over $900M USD in export value, and landed orders from major US buyers like Walmart, Target and TJX. None of it is textbook theory — it was earned one order and one container at a time.

Sound familiar?

The order decline is just the surface. What's really holding you back is usually one of these.

Over 30+ sharing sessions in the past two years, I've found that 99% of people get stuck in nearly the same places — not from lack of effort, but because no one has ever laid the problem out clearly for them.

No one to ask
File 01

No one around you can give you a real answer

  • You're the only one in the room when it's time to decide — no one to break the problem down with
  • Asked peers, asked friends — all you get back is vague, secondhand experience
  • Someone who genuinely understands both manufacturing operations and how overseas buyers think? Nowhere to be found

Can't see where the problem is
File 02

Orders are down, but you don't know why

  • Can't tell if it's the product, the pricing, the channel, or the market itself
  • Only know how to quote FOB, don't understand the full margin structure — no confidence in your own quote
  • No objective person to help judge whether your product is actually competitive

Stuck between OEM and a brand
File 03

Want to transition, but don't know where to start

  • Only know OEM manufacturing, margins squeezed to the limit, no idea how to move toward a brand
  • Don't understand how overseas buyers actually evaluate a product, don't know what "buyer-ready" materials even look like
  • English isn't strong enough — lose confidence and hesitate to speak up during negotiations and follow-ups

Grinding away in the wrong direction
File 04

Already spent the money, but can't stop now

  • Sunk real money into trade shows, samples, ads — know it isn't working but can't bring yourself to stop
  • Caught in a price war with competitors, can't see any way out besides cutting price further
  • Second-generation successor or came into the industry sideways — foundations aren't solid, but hard to admit it

No confidence reading overseas markets
File 05

Push forward or pull back — you genuinely don't know

  • Tariffs and policy changes are making you anxious, unsure if now is even a good time
  • Afraid of landing an unreliable middleman or agent — got burned once and trust no one now
  • Want a genuine presence overseas — setting up a company, hiring sales — but have no idea where to start

Thinking a brand alone will fix everything
File 06

Thinking a brand alone can save the business

  • Haven't worked out pricing, channel, or differentiation — but expect a new logo to fix everything
  • Spent real money on packaging and a new website, and buyers reacted exactly the same as before
  • Can't tell whether "brand" is the outcome or the starting point — spent the money, but pointed in the wrong direction

FAQ

Questions you might be asking too

Q1

My orders suddenly dropped by half — did I do something wrong?

Most of the time it's not something you did wrong — the market shifted, the channel shifted, or the buyer's decision logic shifted. The question isn't whether to panic, it's whether you actually understand what changed. That's exactly where I can help you get clarity.
Q2

Is it still worth entering Western markets right now?

Yes, but not every product or every company is ready to enter right now. I'll look at your product, pricing, and team readiness first, then give you an honest assessment — not just a reflexive "of course there's opportunity."
Q3

My English isn't great and I've never dealt with overseas buyers — can you still help?

Yes. Most factory owners I've worked with started exactly there. Language isn't the biggest obstacle — lack of clarity on direction is. Get the direction clear first; language and execution can be built up step by step.
Q4

Should I book a phone Q&A or full one-on-one consulting?

If you're stuck on one specific issue (how to reply to an email, how to read a quote), a phone Q&A is enough. If you need a full review of your product, pricing, channels, and brand positioning, a full-day consulting session is the better fit.
Q5

My factory is not in China — does your experience still apply?

Yes. The core of what I teach — how Western buyers think, how to price for real margin, how to build buyer-ready materials — is not specific to any one country's factories. I've worked with manufacturers across Asia, and the fundamentals of breaking into US and EU retail are the same whether you're based in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, or anywhere else.
Q6

What language are consultations conducted in?

Consultations are conducted in English. My team and I have direct experience working with US and EU buyers, so we can speak your language and theirs — no translation gaps, no lost nuance.
Q7

What's the difference between a sharing session and one-on-one consulting — which should I pick?

The sharing session is better if you want a systematic overview first, to see exactly where you're stuck. If you already know your problem clearly and want a targeted judgment call, one-on-one consulting is more efficient. You can also do both, in either order — they're not mutually exclusive.
Q8

My factory is small, or I don't make home goods — am I still a fit?

Yes. I've worked with factories ranging from small workshops of a few dozen people to large factories with thousands of employees, across categories well beyond home goods — the core issues of pricing logic, channel judgment, and buyer communication apply across scale and category. Let's talk about your specific situation and I'll give you an honest read.
Q9

Will what I share stay confidential?

Yes. Product, channel, and customer information you share never gets disclosed to third parties — that's basic professional conduct, and it's also why so many past clients keep referring others over the years.
Q10

With tariffs stacking up, is my product still viable in the US market?

Start from landed cost, not the tariff rate. Add duty, customs clearance, freight, US warehousing and platform fees, then work back from the shelf price to your real margin. The answer is usually one of three: still viable through a different channel, viable only with a different spec, or not worth further investment.
Q11

Now that the $800 de minimis exemption is gone, can we still ship parcels direct?

The economics have changed. Every commercial parcel now needs a formal customs entry, and that fixed cost per shipment eats the margin on small orders. Most factories move to consolidated container shipping plus a US warehouse, which also means solving importer of record and clearance. It is a new fulfilment model, not a new courier.
Q12

Should we set up a factory in Vietnam or Mexico?

Do not let “everyone is moving” make this decision for you. It depends on the tariff gap for your category, whether your buyers accept that origin, whether you have someone you trust on the ground, and whether local supply chains can support you. Many factories need a new channel and pricing structure, not a new plant.
Q13

Amazon, TikTok Shop, or a semi-managed marketplace — which should a factory do first?

Decide whether you want cash flow or brand equity. Marketplaces bring volume fast but cap your price band and keep the customer data. Your own channels and physical retail move slower, but the pricing and the relationships are yours. Most factories should validate with one channel before opening three.
Q14

What materials do US buyers actually expect?

A line sheet they can quote from, a full price structure covering FOB and DDP, a suggested retail price, certifications and test reports, real retail-context photography, plus lead times and MOQ. Buyers will not assemble this for you — they will simply move on to the next supplier.
Q15

Can you guarantee we will get orders?

No, and nobody honest will. Orders depend on product, price, timing and execution, and those are not all in my hands. What I can guarantee is that you will know where you stand, what to do next, and which money and opportunities to stop wasting. Get the direction right and orders follow.

Each of those questions opens into a full guide

Landed cost under stacked tariffs, the fulfilment model after de minimis, the EU compliance gates, and relocate-versus-restructure — each one gives you a method you can act on.

Tell me your situation, and I'll tell you how I can help

Briefly describe your product, your current situation, and the problem you most want solved. I'll tell you the best fit — a phone Q&A, one-on-one consulting, or more structured project support.

Reference Pricing

Phone/video Q&A starts at $240 USD / 30 min, one-on-one consulting starts at $3,500 USD / day (billed in USD via WTDA Limited, Hong Kong). I list the starting prices here simply so you don't have to reach out first and only then discover it isn't a fit — that would be a waste of your time. If it's not in the budget right now, that's completely understandable. For factory visits, overseas representation, and other services, feel free to scan the QR code and we'll send you the full quote.

Why are you reaching out?

Treat me like a doctor. The clearer you are about where it hurts, how long it has hurt and what you have already tried, the more specific the next step I can give you — instead of advice that fits everyone and helps no one.

Tick whichever ones describe you (choose any)

The more specific you are, the more useful the first reply will be.
